Overview

A Better Business Bureau accredited business founded in 2016 with home offices in Austin, Texas, BetterLegal has many satisfied customers. They offer LLC and Incorporation services in all 50 states. They offer flat rate services, fast turnaround times, an easy to learn and use platform. Everything is done online and if you have any questions, the chat on the screen can guide you.

Ease of use

From the home page, select your State and Business Type and follow the questionnaire to complete your business information

There is an option to add the Registered Agent subscription service for an extra fee, but this is optional.

One thing we noticed is that BetterLegal doesn’t have a ‘Back’ button, so if you want to change some of the information you already filled you will need to hit the back button on your browser which will take you back to the first page. So we advice you fill your information carefully/

Pricing

LLC has two options once you get started, Single Member LLC and Multi-Member LLC. Then you will ber asked for the name of your LLC. There is a free name search available at this time.

BetterLegal LLC Cost

The LLC Formation cost is $299 plus state filing fees and includes Articles of Organization, an Employer Identification Number (Tax ID or EIN), an Operating Agreement and Banking Resolution plus other Helpful Docs.

BetterLegal Corporation Cost

The Corporation Formation cost is also $299 plus state filing fees and includes Articles of Organization, an Employer Identification Number (Tax ID or EIN), Bylaws and a Banking Resolution plus other Helpful Docs (including Officer Designations, Ownership Amendment Forms, Meeting Minute Templates and S-Corp Tax Election).
The Corporation has two options as well, Single Director Inc and Multi-Director Inc. Both are set up as a C-Corp.
These four items in each category are all you need to open a business bank account and be in compliance with the state to do business.
In addition, several other services are provided with both the LLC and the Corporation packages. BetterLegal partners with other companies to provide a free website, free business checking account, free tax analysis, free insurance evaluation and a payroll, benefits and HR platform.
The claim is 1 business day to step up your business with the state, but that will vary on how fast the state responds to the request. Reviews show 1-2 business days is a typical client experience.

Cost of additional subscription services

Aside from LLC and Corporation formation, BetterLegal offers several Subscription services. Once you form your LLC or Corporation, these are available for purchase.

• Registered Agent service is $10/month or $90/year and includes an office where someone is available during normal business hours to receive legal notifications. This service is also done through a third party partner. This is a very competitive rate for a register agent service as most companies charge $120 – $150 for this service.
• State Compliance Services is $10/month or $90/year and ensures you do not miss filing deadlines.
• Permit and License Search is a one-time fee of $125 and includes a comprehensive search of your state’s requirements. Once any permits or licenses are discovered, BetterLegal will send all the required forms and instructions to you.
• Amendment or Document Research is an added free service for all formation customers. This includes updating addresses and LLC or Corporation members.

There are also numerous Filing Services available. Choose your business type and state and a list is generated. Fees vary as some have fees required by the state and some have fees charged by BetterLegal. A turnaround time is also listed with each Filing Service.

Here are some additional resources provided by BetterLegal:

• Name Search is free and is done through each state’s database. If you choose a name that is already taken, the Secretary of State will reject the application and this will delay your entity formation. There are numerous suggestions on how to choose a unique name.
• Info Center has frequently answered questions about LLC’s and BetterLegal’s services compared to some of their competitors. They are written by the company partners.

Verdict

BetterLegal is easy to use and has many pleased clients. They are a fairly new company and do not have a comprehensive educational site or easy to find contact information. They do have fast turnaround times and clear pricing. If you desire very simple set-up, know what you want in an entity formation, do not need a lot of additional services, but want someone to file the legal paperwork with the state, BetterLegal is a great alternative.
